- As the use of shared personal mobility (PM) has increased in recent years, the need for service improvement has emerged as a challenge. This study analyzes the results of a survey of PM users and proposes service improvement measures to promote the use of PM and make them safer.
The main motivation for using PM was the ability to travel to destinations faster than walking and the availability of various PM in the vicinity. In particular, the role of PM as a fast transportation method was emphasized as time is important in modern society.
Many respondents expressed the need for docking stations to facilitate PM use. This request mainly emphasized the need to connect with public transportation, as cradles near subway stations or bus stops would allow people to use PM to access public transportation. This can increase ridership by connecting PM with existing public transportation. Both public transportation and PM are eco-friendly, and this is a good way to build a sustainable transportation system in cities.
Many respondents said that designated parking areas should be expanded to ensure safe PM use. Due to the shared nature of PM, it is easy for people to park anywhere and obstruct the flow of pedestrians and other vehicles. Expanding the designated space for PM parking is expected to increase the convenience of PM use while preventing accidents caused by illegal parking.
Reflecting the opinions of PM users, this study proposes service improvement measures to activate PM use and connect it safely and efficiently with existing public transportation. The installation of racks is expected to strengthen the connection with public transportation, and the expansion of designated parking areas is expected to create a safe environment for use. Specific policies and implementation are needed in the future, and this will be an important task for the continued growth of PM and safe use by citizens.
